  • Older Oasis brother Noel Gallagher pays an estimated £20,000 a year for energy at his £8 million mansion, while Liam’s £3 million pad costs less than £5,000[1]

  • The top ten of pop stars’ energy bills recalls several old rivalries, with Oasis, Take That and Spice Girls bandmates finally settling old scores in Uswitch’s second annual Celebrity Homes Power List

  • Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell forks out about £14,000 a year for her country estate, compared to an estimated £11,000 for Posh Spice Victoria Beckham’s £5m Cotswolds home[2]

  • Robbie Williams’ £17 million ten-bed London home costs an estimated £33,000 a year to run, almost three times that of Take That bandmate Gary Barlow[2]

  • No one can knock Sir Elton John from number one in the charts, as his huge 3,000 square-metre mansion is estimated to cost almost £50,000 a year to run[2]

  • Uswitch.com offers celebrities — and regular households — tips on how to reduce their energy costs.

Long-simmering rivalries have resurfaced at the top of the pop star energy bill charts — with Noel Gallagher's outscoring brother Liam, Ginger Spice beating Posh Spice, and Robbie Willams trumping Take That bandmate Gary Barlow in the second annual Celebrity Homes Power List from Uswitch.com, the comparison and switching service.

Few music rivalries have been quite as intense as the former Oasis brothers and bandmates Noel and Liam Gallagher, but the former comes out on top in the energy charts. Noel’s £8 million home is estimated to rack up bills of over £20,000 a year — four times more than the almost £5,000-a-year bill for his brother’s £3.75 million pad[1].

Former Take That singer Robbie Williams’ £17 million ten-bedroom home in Holland Park, London, costs an estimated £33,133 in gas and electricity. Adding to his power costs are a gym, home cinema, 22 bathrooms and a swimming pool[2].

His fellow former bandmate Gary Barlow also features in the top ten, but his £5 million Cotswolds home costs an estimated £12,004 to run[2].

Fellow Cotswolds resident and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and husband David have similar bills, spending an estimated £11,395 a year to power their nine-bedroom home, which includes a plunge pool and sauna[2].

Posh Spice is narrowly edged out by Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell, whose swimming pool and Aga at her seven-bedroom home near Banbury pushes her energy bill up to approximately more than £14,000 a year[2].

But these pop star rivals cannot hope to dislodge  Sir Elton John, who retains the number one spot in the energy bill charts, as his £6 million Windsor mansion is estimated to cost almost £50,000 a year in heating and electricity[2].

It is not surprising that Elton’s pad comes with the biggest bills, as the 3,008 sq m home is 33 times the size of the average 90.18 sq m UK house[3] and also benefits from a swimming pool and cinema room.

Shape Of You singer Ed Sheeran’s ever-growing collection of properties at ‘Sheeranville’, Suffolk, include a pub, recording studio and swimming pool, which help push up his energy bill to an estimated £21,418[2].

Uswitch.com has compiled a list of tips and tricks that celebrities and people living in more modest households can follow to reduce energy bills. These include switching to ensure you are on the cheapest tariff and unplugging appliances when they are not in use.

Sarah Broomfield, energy expert at Uswitch.com, comments: “Some pop stars are paying so much for their energy bills you’d have thought they made their fortune singing power ballads.

“Noel and Liam spent years at the top of the pop charts with Oasis, but the older brother’s bigger house now means he’s paying an estimated four times as much for his energy bills.

“With most celebrity homes several times larger than the average UK home, it’s no surprise that they have energy bills to match. Even the more modest pop star homes come with bills over £10,000.

“Thankfully, most of these celebrities don’t have to worry about paying the bills, but celebrity or not, there’s always a benefit to keeping down the amount of energy you use.

“Sometimes it can be as simple as turning off lights when you leave the room, and turning down the thermostat, but for Noel, Geri and Robbie  it might be a question of turning down the temperature of their swimming pools.

“Switching tariffs is another great way to keep those utility bills down. If you’re on a standard variable tariff, you can save hundreds of pounds a year by switching, so do a search online and compare what deals are out there.”
